The Carlisle Beekeepers Association was established
in 1931 to promote beekeeping, bee health, and to help beekeepers
through the dissemination of information and the purchase of
equipment. Today our aims are much the same as they were then . We
currently have around 50 members from north Cumbria and southern
Scotland
MEMBERSHIP
Full
members of Carlisle Branch paying the subs this year £21 (due
in January each year) are also members of Cumbria BKA, the parent
body. Six area branches cover different geographical areas around
Cumbria. The members of one branch can freely attend the meetings
arranged by other branches in Cumbria. A large part of the local subs
include capitation fees for affiliation to The British Beekeepers
Association with third party and product liability insurance among
other benefits .
APIARY
We
have an association apiary running different types of hive,
National,Langstroth,WBC,and Dartington hives. During our meetings in
the summer, members and visitors can learn about bees and beekeeping
with hands on experience,(veils can be provided).
EVENTS
As
well as the events listed below Visits are organised to members
apiaries and Carlisle branch members help with beekeeping promotion
on the Cumbria BKA stand during the Cumberland Show, and have a stand
at the Dalston Agricultural Show. There are six Sunday afternoon
beginners classes in the spring, and we
hope this year to help some members attain the BBKA Basic Beekeeping
