Whitehaven Beekeepers and District Beekeepers

Members of the British Beekeepers Association

General:

The Whitehaven and District branch has been in existence for at least 40 years. The beginnings are recorded by minutes of monthly meetings, and some address books, but no information on   subscriptions, nor membership numbers.

We have members along the coastal area from  Bootle in the South to Distington in the North but are always happy to welcome new members from any parts of Cumbria.

Membership:

We have two types of membership: Full Members(£17.00/year due on 1st Jan) for those who keep Bees, and need the cover of BBKA insurance, and Associate Members(£5.00/year) for those who may wish to keep bees in the future, or those who maintain an interest in Beekeeping but perhaps do not have their own Apiary. They enjoy the benefit of social events, newsletters and visits to other members’ hives, but do not require the umbrella of membership of the Cumbria Beekeepers.

Aims:

The aims of the branch are to make Beekeeping enjoyable and safe. We have apiary visits during the Summer, provide a variety of social events throughout the year, issue a quarterly newsletter, and attend conventions and conferences. Several members will be taking BBKA examinations in 2007. We hope our branch gives members the chance to keep up to date with disease management, changes in rules and regulations with regard to bee pathology and to sales of hive products.
